LedgerWise Help & Support

How LedgerWise keeps your books, how iPhone, iPad and Mac stay in step, and how to reach a human.

Getting in touch

LedgerWise is made by a small independent studio. Write to support@unselstudio.app and you will reach the developer directly. In the app, Settings → About → Send feedback opens an e-mail with the app version and your device model already filled in, which makes problems much quicker to solve. Nothing else about you is added.

What LedgerWise does

LedgerWise is a bookkeeping app for UK limited companies and sole traders. You record sales invoices, expenses, cash deposits, bank receipts, transfers between your own accounts, dividends and recurring payments. From these it shows your profit, an estimate of Corporation Tax and dividend tax, PAYE and National Insurance on salary, your VAT turnover against the registration threshold, unpaid invoices and upcoming deadlines such as the confirmation statement, annual accounts and the CT600.

Several companies can be kept side by side: add one from the company menu, and every company’s records stay separate.

iPhone, iPad and Mac

LedgerWise runs on iPhone, iPad and Mac. With iCloud synchronisation turned on, a record you add on one device appears on the others signed in to the same Apple Account, usually within moments. Without a connection you can keep working; changes are sent when the device is back online.

Synchronisation is chosen on each device. On first launch choose Get my iCloud data to bring in records you already keep in iCloud, or start fresh. You can change it later in Settings → iCloud Synchronization.

Bank reconciliation

In Bank Reconciliation, import a statement for one of your accounts: a Tide PDF statement, a Starling or Lloyds CSV export, or a CSV from any other bank (you tell LedgerWise which column holds the date, description and amount). Each statement line is compared with your records and marked as matched, probable or to review. Statement lines never change any figure on their own: nothing is added until you decide.

When many lines have no record yet, Handle in bulk groups them by who the money went to or came from, so you make one decision per group instead of one per line. Statement files are read on your device and never sent anywhere.

One payment, several invoices

Cash you collect for several jobs is often banked in one go. When adding or editing a cash deposit or bank receipt, use Invoices → Add invoice to split it across the invoices it pays, even invoices of different customers. Each invoice then shows only its own share as paid, and the payment’s history lists the invoices by customer.

Tax figures are estimates

Tax figures use the HMRC rates and thresholds for each tax year built into the app. They are estimates to help you plan, not a tax return and not professional advice. Your actual liability can depend on things LedgerWise does not know about. Check important figures with your accountant or HMRC before you rely on them.

Free trial, subscription and lifetime purchase

Every new download of LedgerWise can be used free for 30 days: you can add records, reconcile statements and see your reports. Exporting reports as PDF or CSV, and adding or editing records once the trial is over, come with the yearly subscription or the lifetime purchase. One purchase covers iPhone, iPad and Mac signed in with the same Apple Account. If the trial ends without a purchase, nothing is deleted and your books stay readable.

You will find it on iPhone in More (the button next to Settings), on iPad and Mac in the sidebar under Subscription, and everywhere in Settings → Subscription & Purchase, where Restore Purchases brings a purchase to a new device. The yearly subscription renews automatically unless it is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the year; manage or cancel it in your App Store account settings. Payments and refunds are handled by Apple: ask for a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com.

Backups and export

Settings → Backup & Restore exports a backup file of everything for the current company and restores it on any device. Automatic backups can be kept in the app’s folder (on iPhone and iPad: Files → On My iPhone/iPad → LedgerWise). Backup files are not encrypted: keep them somewhere safe.

Reports & Export creates a PDF for your accountant or CSV files for a spreadsheet (with the subscription or lifetime purchase).

Deleting your data

Delete a record by swiping it or from its menu. Settings → Company Information → Delete Company removes a company and all its records; with synchronisation on, the deletion reaches your other devices too. Deleting the app removes what it stored on that device. To remove the copy in iCloud, open the Settings app on iPhone or iPad, tap your name → iCloud → Manage Storage → LedgerWise. Backup files and exports you saved elsewhere are yours to delete.
